Golden Rule of Design

Image
This image shows an example of the Golden Rule of Design, we see the middle of the origin being the people walking down the sidewalk. That area seems to be cluttered with most of the stuff going on in the image being on that right side. As the spiral moves right, it gets to go into some space, showing us how the image gives us a bit of both. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image is another example of Golden Rule of Design. We see the main focus being the head of the man and we are shown it slowly spiral around the edge and get towards the area that the man is working. Then it the spiral ends up in the empty space. This image is mostly cluttered on the right side but eventually finds its way into some space on the left side. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Her we can see the origin of the spiral b...

Rule of Thirds

Image
This is an example of the Rule of Thirds because the cheetah's head space is not close to the edges of the image. The tangents and edge magnetism are avoided as the main subject is the cheetah's head. The cheetah also has look space, the cheetah looks in the distance towards the right giving it the space in the picture to look. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image of a surfer looking towards the sunset is an example of the Rule of Thirds. The picture avoids tangents and edge magnetism as the surfer is placed in an area that is not close to the edges. He is given enough head space to be able to have look space for him to look at the sunset. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this image we see the mountains in the distance, this is an example of the Rule of Thirds because of the placement...

Principle: Variety

Image
In this image, we see a lot of peppers, and this is a perfect example of variety. Peppers come in all shapes, sizes, and colors as well as levels of spice and this image shows all of that (except the spice level part). We see all the different types of colors they come in from orange to, red, yellow, green, and even to purple. We see big bulky ones, round ones, small ones, and skinny ones. All these differences yet they are all still peppers and that shows variety. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This picture shows a big stained-glass window, and it is another example of variety. In this window we see some trees with the sky both with blue and yellow colors. The variety part of this piece is that this is made up of many shapes and colors. The variety of shapes and colors all come together to make this one big piece of art. ------------------------------------------------------------------...

Principle: Proportion

Image
In this picture we see and lady that looks to be holding a gigantic leaf, however, this is an illusion. The lady is standing at a distance while the leaf is being held closer to the camera making it seem as if it is an enormous leaf. This is an example of proportion as there is the use of the leaf and the space between the two objects to make this picture. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is an image of an iceberg or an ice cap, it seems like a normal image until you pay extra close attention and then you would see a person on a kayak next to it. When you notice the person, you can now tell how massive this ice cap is compared to the human. Without the person next to it, you would think this is a normal sized object, but the person truly shows the size of it. This is an example of proportion. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

Principle: Unity

Image
In this close-up picture of this plant, we can see the way all the leaf branches connect to the center of the plant. I think this is an example of unity as the way they all are united and connected to the center stem. The leaves all branch out in their own direction but their always still connected to what eventually will always bring them all together and that can be a symbol of unity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image of pencils all perfectly fitting into the empty spaces is an example of unity. All the pencils are perfectly placed so there isn't any empty space between one another, in the middle the lead of the pencils all unite. The shaving part of the pencil all connect right at the rigid where the yellow begins creating a wooden circle. and the gaps between the pencils in the inner circle are filled in by other pencils that place to fill in the gap, this creating unity. ---...

Principle: Rhythm

Image
This picture gives an example of rhythm with ballerinas standing in a line, the way they all stand looks almost identical. That repetition provides the viewer a sense of rhythm as the little details are similar and constant. With the ballerinas standing just like the one before it, that creates the rhythm. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This picture of street signs are an example of rhythm. The repetition and the way the signs curve alongside the curvature of the road gives the viewer the sense of rhythm of how it is all even. The signs follow another sign giving the indication of the curve as well as the signs themselves following that curve, that is what creates the rhythm. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this picture we can see the waves crashing on the shore and creating a lot of wet rigid...

Principles: Pattern

Image
This picture of a Zebra really captures the pattern of their hair. A zebra is famous for their outlandish stripes, it is not something you see every day and it's truly amazing how an animal can have that type of pattern with those colors on their hair. The Zebra has a pattern of white and black stripes throughout their entire body. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This picture of a tunnel is full of color and patterns. Throughout the tunnel we see a combination of red, black, yellow, and blue. All those colors come together and create and pattern that is followed through the tunnel. This picture uses space to show how the pattern goes all the way through the tunnel. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image represents a pattern but the way the yarn is stored. We see a pattern of color and shapes ...

Principle: Movement

Image
This image is an example of movement, we see a lady standing in front of a subway train moving at a ridiculously fast speed. Due to its speed, we just see a blur, and that blur effect gives the viewer an understanding of movement in a still image. The stand-still lady shows a great contrast to the speed of the train as she is the only thing in the picture that is not blurry. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is another example of movement, however in this example the image is moving with the car. The car is moving at a rapid speed and its surroundings are blurred out as the car moves. The image is level with the car and moving alongside it which is why the surroundings are left blurred out. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image shows a different example of movement, instead of the blur ef...

Principle: Emphasis

Image
This close-up picture is an example of emphasis, in this picture the main focus point is on the brown eye of the elephant. We see this dark grey, rough texture of the skin of the elephant as well as the small brown eye. With most of the image being taken up by the elephant skin the eye is really emphasized because of the contrast of color. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image of umbrellas is an example of emphasis because of the red umbrella that contrast the rest of the black umbrellas. The viewers' attention is instantly brought to the bright color compared to the rest of the image. The black umbrellas emphasize the red umbrella as the black seems to "lack" color and that makes the red pop even more. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This example of emphasis, it is not as much abo...

Principle: Contrast

Image
This image is a good example of contrast, we see the underside of a leaf with a frog's outline that is lying on the other side. The frog's outline contrasts the leaf as the outline is dark, it shows the body of the frog. We see the feet, arms, legs, and body all dark compared to the green of the leaf you can really see the difference. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image of a rose is a good example of contrast. The contrast between the rose and the background is evident with the pedals being white versus the dark background. You can also see it in the crevices of the pedals where the light is not easy to get to or is not easily able to view. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image of a yellow fish is a good example of contrast, the viewers attention is brought to the yellow fish as i...

Principle: Balance

Image
This picture is a good representation of balance, not only with the 2 people obviously balancing but also with the way the picture splits into 2 equal parts. Both sides containing one individual balancing as well as some forest and nature on either side of the track. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This picture contains a sunset at a beach with some natural structures, this is an example of balance. It's an example of balance as both the natural structures are on either side of the picture not leaving one side of the picture empty. This picture also includes space with one structure being close and the other being farther away in the distance. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The balance in this image is seen by the spiral staircase. As the staircase descends, it descends evenly. The staircase is ...

Element: Texture

Image
This close-up picture of a leaf really shows the texture of the leaf and all the little rigids it's made of. We see what looks like veins, the lines that branch out to the side of the main stem. The lines give the leaf many rigids causing it to have the look of texture on its surface. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image of a basketball shows a key part of the ball. The grip needed for the ball adds texture to it, which allows basketball players to proper grip and handle the ball when playing. This adds control over the ball which is key for when playing basketball. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image of a rope shows the rough texture of the rope. The rough texture is good for the rope for when it's used to pull and tie things up. That rough texture adds grip to make it a good us...

Element: Form

Image
This image is an example of form, it includes cubes which are the perfect example of form. Cubes are a 3-dimensional shape with 6 squares on each side each square containing circles to represent the number count on that side. We see 2 cubes in this image, one in front of the other with both showing 1 circle on the top side. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This picture contains multiple spheres on the ground. They have a constant rhythm and follow a line making them seem like they are a barrier. The 3-dimensional shape can be seen by the shadow it has when it gets towards the bottom of the sphere. You can also see the texture of the sphere. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This image of a skyscraper represents form in many ways. The tower is full of rigid edges and as it decreased to a point at the...

Element: Value

Image
This is an example of value as you can see the different shades on the baby's face. The light hits the left side of its face, and the right side is left in the shadow. The little details like the eye socket and the outer nostril are dimmed out by the feature of the baby's face and the angle of the lighting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The picture includes an open book with a ring balanced in the middle. The ring is hit by some lighting from above causing a heart to be made by its shadow, symbolizing what a ring can represent and bring. The shadow makes something of value and meaning. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This example of value includes 3 eggs placed on top and on the side of a container. There is some light that hits the surface of the eggs from above and lights up the top half ...

Element: Shape

Image
This is an example of shapes with a stained-glass window.  It has a variety of shapes to create one entire piece of art, it is full of squares, rectangles, pentagons, ovals, and circles. The different colors connect shapes to make multiple big circles and a flower inside. This also makes other shapes stand out like the clear squares and rhombuses. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A honeycomb is a good example of the use of shape because its hexagonal pattern. The hexagons are naturally made by the bees to store honey, the geometric shape draws the viewer's eye and creates a sense rhythm, structure, and balance in the picture. This example of shape using the honeycomb's hexagon shape makes it a perfect example of geometric shapes in the nature. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A billiards game ...

Element: Color

Image
This picture represents color as well as emphasis on the red pepper. The picture makes the red pepper really stand out like a sore thumb compared to the other green apples surrounding the pepper. This is one example of how colors compare and contrast to others. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- During the fall the color of the leaves change from green to orange, yellow, and red. These colors are such a nice sight and a good example of color and the different shades of it. In this picture we see a forest with all those bright colors and the combination of those colors just fit so well together.  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This picture of these parrots really captures the bright colors of their feathers. Despite being bright, and on different sides of the color spectrum, these colors work s...

Element: Line

Image
A spider web is full of the lines that a spider creates to catch its dinner. A web is composed of lines going horizontally, vertically, diagonally, and curved that create many different types of shapes. All the lines unite with other lines to create an entire piece that serves a purpose. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This pier is full of lines, but also you can use space as well. The handrails and the floorboards all are examples of lines and the way they seem to gradually get closer as it gets towards the light house. the diagonal and vertical lines on the handrails add more depth to the picture by adding more than just horizontal lines going into the distance. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is another example that is similar to the last one that also includes space with the lines going ...
