Principle: Emphasis

This close-up picture is an example of emphasis, in this picture the main focus point is on the brown eye of the elephant. We see this dark grey, rough texture of the skin of the elephant as well as the small brown eye. With most of the image being taken up by the elephant skin the eye is really emphasized because of the contrast of color.

This image of umbrellas is an example of emphasis because of the red umbrella that contrast the rest of the black umbrellas. The viewers' attention is instantly brought to the bright color compared to the rest of the image. The black umbrellas emphasize the red umbrella as the black seems to "lack" color and that makes the red pop even more.

This example of emphasis, it is not as much about the color but more about the objects in the picture. Here is a picture of a hot air balloon in the air above and some land with trees and smoke. The balloon catches all the attention of the viewer as it stands out, not only because of the color but mainly because it sits above the horizon in the open space of the image.
